Richard Fadden

Richard (Dick) Fadden headshot
Over the course of his career, Dick Fadden worked in a variety of positions across the Government of Canada, including in the Department of External Affairs, the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and the Treasury Board Secretariat. His positions have included being the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, the Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the Deputy Minister for Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Canada, President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Deputy Clerk and Counsel in the Privy Council Office, during which he assumed the additional duties of Security and Intelligence Coordinator.

Since his retirement, Dick has served on several boards and advisory councils as well as serving as a Senior Fellow at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa. He also comments on a variety of public policy issues.

In 2017, Dick was appointed the Order of Canada for his distinguished leadership in the federal public service, notably in the fields of defense and national security.

Dick began his involvement with Canadian Red Cross as a member of the Government Relations Advisory Committee. He joined the Board of Directors in 2020 and has served on the Governance Committee, of which he is currently the Chair.

He is based in Ottawa, Ontario.
