Client Services - Team Lead Volunteer

Volunteer opportunity conditions:   

  • Location : In-person 
  • Regions / or cities : Abbotsford , Chilliwack, White Rock, Kelowna, 100 Mile House, Revelstoke, Trail, Duncan, Port Alberni and Victoria.
  • Minimum age : 16 years and older. 
  • Minimum volunteer hours/period : Commitment to two 4-hour shifts per week for a minimum of 12 months. Between the hours of 8:30am-1:00pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays for Burnaby depot only. The majority of the work is performed in an office environment and/or warehouse space.

The Health Equipment Loan Program team is looking for volunteers to be part of their mission. Because of HELP volunteers, tens of thousands of Canadians who are recovering from surgery or illness are able to access health equipment that enhances mobility and independence, allowing them to recover from the comfort of their home. 


As a volunteer in this role, you will: 

  • Supports Client Service Volunteers and overall site management and ensures the local team provides client services in accordance with HELP policies and procedures.
  • Ensures professional customer service is provided to the public by the Client Service Team. 
  • Responsible for overseeing the provision of client services including lending and receiving of equipment, adherence to policies and procedures, record keeping, and responding to public enquiries.
  • Liaises with regional office/HELP Staff regularly and reports any accident, incident, security, or facility related concern.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Red Cross programs and services and acts as resource in the community. 
  • Responsible to provide Client Service volunteers with an orientation to the local work site including emergency procedures, security requirements, job and program responsibilities.
  • Provides training, direct supervision, feedback, and informal recognition to Client Service volunteers at the Client Service Site.
  • Organizes and maintains a schedule of Client Service volunteer hours and coverage. 
  • Communicates updates and changes in the program, policies or procedure with the client service volunteers.
  • Provides input to CRCS Management about volunteer needs, program changes, and client concerns.
  • Assists with volunteer recruitment in the community. 
  • Ensures paper and/or computer records regarding clients, loans and returns are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitors the processing of donations received at the site.
  • Prepares reports and statistics as required.
  • Liaises with equipment supply staff with regards to equipment recalls, shortages, and surpluses.

  • Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office, printers, online platforms/support portals, etc.) 
  • Thrive at providing optimum customer service, comfortable interacting with the public.
  • Strong supervisory, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of cultural issues is an asset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in other languages is an asset.

A satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check or equivalent is mandatory for all personnel volunteering or working with the CRC.
