The Canadian Red Cross national Risk Reduction and Resilience team offer virtual learning events throughout the year to share knowledge and ideas that communities, families, and individuals can use to make their communities safer and stronger.
We invite you to register for our Fall 2024 webinars below and look forward to having you join our conversations with community members and experts working together to support communities in being more prepared, adapting to shifting realities, and learning how to recover from events that can be both simple and complex.

Fall 2024: Opioid Harm Reduction for Indigenous Peoples
Introduction to Opioid Harm Reduction (Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Programs Team) (ENG)

Develop basic knowledge of how to best support Opioid Harm Reduction (OHR) including different approaches and supports across the country. This session will connect participants with Naloxone training and supplies available in their region.

Optional Roundtable Discussion 12-12:30 PM MT/ 2-2:30 PM EST
Familiarize yourself with practical strategies to identify community strengths and learn how to build upon them using the Community Overview Tool. This session provides participants with contacts, resources, and information to access and use this newly developed tool.
Join us for an optional roundtable following the main webinar event to continue the conversation, ask questions, and share your thoughts on how the Tool could fit with communities or what could be changed.

Naloxone: Busting the Myths (Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Programs Team) (ENG)

Discover essential concepts to promote safety, calmness, efficacy, and hope while meeting basic needs. This session will equip participants with educational tools and resources. Join us for an optional roundtable to discuss experiences working with Naloxone in communities, including how to deal with stigma and addressing myths related to harm reduction.

This session explores the lived experiences of those who have lived in or supported communities through Opioid Harm Reduction. Join our guest speakers and Canadian Red Cross staff for an optional roundtable discussion on Indigenous teachings and culture-specific activities that support opioid harm reduction.

Strengthening Wellness by Creating Safe Environments Through Community Engagement: Spring 2024 Virtual Learning Series
From February to March 2024, the national Risk Reduction and Resilience team hosted three webinars introducing the Community Wellness and Protection, Social Emergency, and Recovery programs. These webinars highlighted how the teams collaborate with communities to promote risk reduction and resilience by integrating local knowledge and traditions.- Community Wellness and Protection: Supporting and Honoring Indigenous Knowledge – Held on February 29, 2024

Prepared Together: Disaster Preparedness Virtual Learning Series, Summer 2024
As climate change increasingly affects communities across Canada, the Canadian Red Cross is dedicated to helping people prepare for future disasters and build resilience.Between May and September 2024, the Risk Reduction and Resilience team successfully hosted over 40 webinars, reaching more than 1,500 participants. These sessions, offered in both English and French, focused on key topics such as general emergency preparedness, extreme heat, wildfires, mental health, well-being, and Psychological First Aid. Special presentations were given by partners like The Resilience Institute, Kids Help Phone, and FireSmart.
