Preparing for and Responding to Disasters

When disaster strikes in Saskatchewan, Red Cross is there.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Red Cross responds to everything from small-scale disasters such as a house fire, to large-scale emergencies such as forest fires or devastating floods.

No matter the size of disaster, in all cases Red Cross provides food, clothing, shelter and essential supplies for the first 72 hours...and beyond, if necessary.

In the last few years, the number and the scope of disasters in Saskatchewan has increased.

In 2011, Red Cross responded to 17 separate large-scale disasters. From flooding the southeast to forest fire evacuations in the north, Red Cross personnel contributed 7,500+ hours in response, assisting more than 4,000 evacuees and distributing more than 3,200 flood clean-up kits.

On a smaller scale, close to 150 Saskatchewan families a year – an average of 3 families a week – receive help from Red Cross after a personal disaster, like a house fire.

None of this would be possible without you.
