Rescuer Award

We’re accepting nominations!

When anything can happen at a moment’s notice, it is the acts of Good Samaritans that make a difference.  For an operations crew with the City of St. John’s, NL, it was just another ordinary workday–until a colleague suddenly collapsed. The crew worked through the emergency as a team. While one crew member called emergency services, another was getting an AED from the cafeteria while two others assessed their colleague and began CPR. Their quick actions resulted in the crew being nominated and awarded with Red Cross Rescuer Awards.

Six-year-old Jaycee Berezowski received a Red Cross Rescuer Award after her life-saving actions demonstrated how practice can be crucial to help build confidence and be prepared to respond in a crisis . When Jaycee’s mom experienced a life-threatening emergency, Jaycee remained calm and put into action what her mom had practiced with her.

The Red Cross Rescuer Award acknowledges the efforts of non-professional rescuers and off-duty first responders who go out of their way to save a life, prevent further injury and/or provide comfort to the injured. As well, Red Cross recognizes children who, without training, provided help. Success in the rescue is not mandatory.

Nominate yourself or someone else for a Red Cross Rescuer Award by completing the online form or sending an email to Rescueaward@redcross.ca.
