The University of New Brunswick, the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society and the Canadian Red Cross invite you to their 2025 International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Conference. This free and public conference featuring academics and practitioners will provide participants the opportunity to increase their understanding of International Humanitarian Law and its domestic perspectives.

As more and more attention is paid to the armed conflicts raging around the world, IHL is increasingly discussed in the public sphere. This conference examines how IHL can applied by domestic tribunals, shedding light on the critical role national courts play its universal implementation. This event will feature a short introduction to International Humanitarian Law, followed by a panel on Canadian Implementation on IHL at home and abroad. For the second half of the conference, Chief Justice B. Richard Bell (Ret’d.), Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada, will address how he had to apply IHL during his career as a federal judge.
