Dates: January 9 and 10, 2025, 9:00am to 3:30pm (lunches and snacks will be provided).
Venue: Collège Montmorency, Room D3117.
Cost: FREE
Exploring Humanitarian Law delves into history, ethics and politics, human psychology, and reveals a whole network of international organizations working to apply this very specific law, also known as the law of war. It is aimed at CEGEP teachers and taking place in French only.
This training will give you the opportunity to learn more about the issues surrounding past and present armed conflicts. It will also cover issues such as refugees, child soldiers, gender-based violence, the protection of civilians and international justice. “Exploring Humanitarian Law” will give you plenty of material to interest your students in the humanities and social sciences, in philosophy, or to feed your language courses (the free kits are available in 19 languages!).
Over the two days of training, you discover and experiment with a number of teaching resources, such as ForcedToFight.ca. You will also be able to talk to experts in humanitarian assistance and international humanitarian law from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as lawyers from the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Canadian Armed Forces. Finally, you will benefit from the experience of other CEGEP teachers who have already taken part in the training and who have integrated the content and activities explored into their courses.
The Canadian Red Cross is committed to social inclusion. To help us measure our progress, we try to gather information about audience demographics. This information is for internal purposes and will not be shared with other organizations.
If you are not comfortable sharing this information, feel free to select “prefer not to answer.”
Fields marked with an * are mandatory.
