Red Cross ready to help as thousands flee BC Fires
| August 20, 2018
Hundreds of wildfires are currently burning across British Columbia.
They’ve already evacuated thousands of families from their homes and destroyed dozens of structures. As the hot, dry and windy weather continues, thousands more people are on evacuation alert, ready to flee their homes at a moment’s notice.
You can help support impacted individuals and families with a donation to the Canadian Red Cross BC Fires Appeal.
The Red Cross has been moving its emergency relief supplies into key locations. Our volunteers are ready to respond or are already in some reception centres supporting local authorities. Red Cross is also working alongside provincial and local governments and Indigenous leaders, planning how we can best support individuals and families with their immediate and long-term recovery needs.
By donating to the BC Fires Appeal you are helping provide assistance to people who have been forced from their homes - now, and in the weeks and months ahead.
The B.C. Government is matching donations by individual British Columbians to the Red Cross BC Fires Appeal from August 15 to October 12, 2018 up to $20 million.
If you have been evacuated and have urgent needs, please go to your nearest reception centre or group lodging facility to register with your local authority. You can find locations and additional information online at www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca, or by calling the Emergency Social Services Call Centre at 1-800-585-9559.
