Walmart and the Red Cross working together to bring relief to families when disaster strikes

From October 1 to 23, 2015, all Walmart Canada stores will be supporting families in need by raising money for Canadian Red Cross in support of its disaster relief and emergency preparedness activities in your community. You can support the campaign by making a donation at the checkout. Special events will be organized across the country to highlight the importance of this fundraising campaign and emergency preparedness.

This year’s campaign goal is $2.6-million

Thanks to support from Walmart Canada and the enthusiastic participation of its associates in this campaign, teams of trained Red Cross volunteers are always ready to respond and provide vital assistance when it is most crucial; giving families affected by a devastating house fire or floods the strength they need to get back on their feet. Sometimes, entire communities are impacted, as we saw in Lac-Mégantic. 

Since 2003, Walmart Canada has raised and donated nearly $29 million in disaster relief funding. Last year, the company raised and donated over $2.8 million for the Canadian Red Cross. These funds provided support to flood relief operations in Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well as close to 3,000 responses to provide relief to families affected by house fires and other small-scale disasters. Although they often fail to make the news, these personal disasters disrupt thousands of lives every year.
