Walmart, RBC and BMO support Red Cross response to flooding in Saskatchewan and Manitoba

When a disaster strikes, the response needs to be swift.

When heavy rainfall in Saskatchewan and Manitoba triggered flooding in several towns and communities, hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate their homes. The Canadian Red Cross response was immediate ­– deploying highly trained disaster response volunteers, providing clean-up materials and replacing essential personal items destroyed by floodwaters or left behind during evacuations. 

One reason for that swift response is the continued support of national corporate partners like Walmart Canada and RBC. Walmart was ready to provide essential clean up supplies and water to communities across the affected areas. RBC began accepting donations to the Canadian Red Cross at their branches in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and on Tuesday announced a $30,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to help with the response. 

On Monday, BMO Bank of Montreal announced a collection of donations at their Saskatchewan and Manitoba branches and a $25,000 donation to assist those affected by the flooding."We hope our relief program for customers and our donation to the Canadian Red Cross will help alleviate some of the difficulties," said John MacAulay, Senior Vice President, Prairies Central Canada Division, BMO Bank of Montreal.

Tom Scinto, Canadian Red Cross Development Officer, says that partners like Walmart and RBC, and caring supporters like BMO make a real impact during a disaster like the current flooding in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.“When there’s an emergency or a disaster, the support we receive from corporate Canada helps us act quickly,” says Tom. “The Red Cross thanks the ongoing support of its national corporate partners and supporters for helping allow Red Cross volunteers and workers to provide disaster and recovery services whenever and wherever they are needed.”

The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to help families and communities recover from the devastation caused by flooding in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Donations can be made online to the Canadian Red Cross response in Manitoba or the Canadian Red Cross response in Saskatchewan, by calling 1-800-418-1111, or at any Red Cross branch. All donations should be earmarked to either Saskatchewan Floods or Manitoba Floods.
