Red Cross was recently in the Calgary community of Bowness to distribute household cleanup kits to residents whose homes were affected by the flooding. Inside the donated, reusable, eco- friendly Walmart bags were Red Cross supplies, including garbage bags, insect repellant and batteries.
The Canadian Red Cross has distributed five different types of cleaning kits to those in the process of cleaning their homes: a Canadian Clean Up Kit, tailored towards the specific needs of Canadians in a disaster; a Heavy Duty Kit, for some of the more demanding cleaning projects; the Light Duty Kit with gloves, Clorox wipes and other materials for lighter cleanup jobs; a Household cleaning kit; and finally, a Bleach Kit, complete with everything from disinfectant spray to bleach.
Lei Huang of Bowness said the Red Cross cleaning kits have been very useful as she and her family clean up their flood-damaged home.
“It’s a nuisance to dig out my own cleaning supplies in all the muck,” she says. “The masks, the cleaning brush, the garbage bags and the bucket you gave us have been very handy. If I run out of something, it’s nice to not have to go out and pick up supplies.”
The following appeal is now closed. You can support our ongoing work by donating to the Canadian Red Cross.
