After Hurricane Sandy more than 10,000 people are living in shelters across the U.S. and many Canadians continue to improve the lives of those affected.
Volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have helped out significantly by lending a hand to our neighbouring communities. Whether it is caring for those who are staying in shelters or travelling around the affected areas delivering warm meals and water, the Canadian Red Cross continues to support American Red Cross relief efforts.
Making a difference
Glenn Dutton of St. Thomas, Ontario, is one of many empathetic Canadians who have been touched by the plight of those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Glenn was deployed with the Canadian Red Cross to work in logistics, meaning he would look for available spaces that could be used for mass shelter, kitchen facilities and warehouses for Red Cross operations.
As part of the world's largest non-profit network, the Canadian Red Cross has lent vital support for Hurricane Sandy relief programs throughout North America and the Caribbean and is committed to offering crucial aid for communities impacted by the devastating storm.
The role of the Canadian Red Cross
The American Red Cross is continuing a massive relief operation, responding across ten states to meet the urgent needs of affected communities. People living in affected areas have now been living in very tough conditions for an extended period of time. The Canadian Red Cross is doing everything possible to assist them during this difficult time.
"The Canadian Red Cross is not only raising funds but also has trained disaster response personnel and emergency supplies on standby for deployment anywhere our help is needed," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross.
