Charity organizations like the Canadian Red Cross play an important role in responding to the humanitarian needs in the country. From emergencies and disasters to violence and abuse prevention, the Canadian Red Cross strives to respond to incidents that occur in Canada as well as other parts of the world.
Youth in Canada who are searching for a way to learn more about global issues such as international humanitarian law, food security and world health can benefit from becoming involved with the Canadian Red Cross.
In addition to gaining knowledge about international events, those who participate in Canadian Red Cross programs can develop training, experience, leadership skills and friendships.
YOUnity in Toronto
Canadian youth in Ontario recently held a conference in Toronto that focused on the role of young people making change throughout the community. Referred to as YOUnity, the conference provided a platform for participants to discuss what it meant to them to be part of the Canadian Red Cross as youth.
YOUnity is similar in spirit to the Global Issues Symposium for Youth, which was held in British Columbia from November 9 to November 12 at the Timberline Ranch Camp in Maple Ridge.
The YOUnity conference gave young people the opportunity to connect with each other and learn more about the Canadian Red Cross' role worldwide.
Youth in the Canadian Red Cross
Young people play an essential role in the programs offered by the Canadian Red Cross and help the organization work toward a common goal of unity and progress.
As a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross, a young person is able to raise awareness of issues affecting people in local communities and in other countries. By taking action and developing initiatives in schools, hometowns and other settings that provide aid to those in need, Canadian youth can make a difference.
How to get involved
The Canadian Red Cross offers many benefits for Canadian youth who are eager to build valuable job experience, gain leadership skills, make changes in their communities and forge meaningful friendships.
By getting involved as a youth volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross, you can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
Those who want to show their support for the Canadian Red Cross can also do so by choosing to donate online or by contacting a local Canadian Red Cross office. Each contribution helps fund the Canadian Red Cross' humanitarian work abroad and internationally.
