The thousands of Manitobans who will be wearing Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink T-shirts on April 8 now know exactly what those shirts will look like, as the winning design for the shirts was unveiled today.

“It was incredible to have more than 1,300 Manitobans, including students, teachers and individuals from across the province, vote on the design for this year’s Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink shirt,” said Rebecca Ulrich, education manager for the Red Cross in Manitoba.

The winning design was Option A, which featured puzzle pieces and positive language. It won with 483 votes, just 11 more than the runner-up design. In second, with 472 votes, was Option B, featuring stylized trees. Option C, which included dancing stick figures, finished third with 382 votes.

Manitoba schools now have until Jan. 31 to order the Day of Pink T-shirts, at a price of $5 each. Workplaces throughout the province can also participate by purchasing their T-shirts for $10 apiece. The workplaces have until early March to place their orders.

“We were excited by the participation of schools in the voting and so now we are encouraging them to showcase their filmmaking skills and participate in our Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink Film Festival,” said Ulrich.

Elementary and secondary students have until March 9 to create and submit a video that demonstrates the importance of creating respectful, healthy relationships and working together to prevent bullying. The videos must be less than three minutes in length.

The top three videos in each of three different age categories will be selected and displayed as part of the Red Cross Day of Pink celebration on April 8, with the winner in each category being named that day. As part of the festival, there will also be the additional RBC Believes in Kids People’s Choice Award, as voted by Manitobans on YouTube.

RBC Royal Bank is the presenting sponsor of Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink in Manitoba.

“We at RBC are delighted to support this important day,” said RBC Regional President Kim Ulmer. “This is a wonderful opportunity for all Manitobans to stand up in solidarity in celebration of respect and kindness whether in our classrooms, living rooms, or board rooms.”

Canadian Red Cross will have further announcements on its Day of Pink celebrations, including more on the Film Festival, as we get closer to April.
