Dalhousie University, the University of New Brunswick and the Canadian Red Cross present the 2023 International Humanitarian Law conference. This conference will bring together experts from the field, including academics and representatives from the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, to discuss Armed Conflict and the Environment.

Climate change is impacting lives across the world, but it is felt most severely by people in fragile circumstances. People living in situations of armed conflict are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis and often the most neglected when it comes to appropriate support. When conflict directly impacts the environment, populations face food and economic insecurity, gaps in health care, and lack of access to essential services. These consequences are far-reaching, creating ripple effects throughout countries and regions.

This event designed for university students, legal professionals, humanitarian workers, and educators will tackle the complexities of modern-day conflicts to provide you with a better understanding of the pressing issues in International Humanitarian Law (IHL), which can be defined as the rule of international law limiting the use of violence in armed conflicts for humanitarian reasons. This free, half-day public conference will include discussion from field experts, academics, and those with lived experience in conflict zones.
