Dalhousie University and the Canadian Red Cross invite you to Conflict and Crisis at Sea: International Humanitarian Law in Modern Naval Warfare. This event will bring together legal experts, military professionals, and academics to engage in critical discussions on the impacts of naval operations on the civilian population, particularly due to blockades and forced migration at sea.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which includes the Convention (II) for the Amelioration of the Condition of Wounded, Sick and Shipwrecked Members of Armed Forces. For the occasion, this conference will delve into the evolving dynamics of naval warfare and its implications within the framework of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Focusing on maritime conflicts, it will explore the legal challenges that arise from naval engagements, blockades, and the protection of civilian vessels.
