Montreal welcomes guests from Mali and the Democratic Republic of the Congo Red Cross

In early March, we had the great pleasure of hosting Nelly Tangua Tangayani, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Red Cross, and Touré Nènè Traoré, from the Mali Red Cross. They spent a week with our Communications team to discuss our respective practices and strengthen their communications capacities.

In addition to receiving training from our team members and an emergency communications specialist, our African colleagues attended several conferences at the Fifth Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction  in Montreal on March 7 and 8. Our Communications teams realized that despite their geographic and cultural differences, they face the same challenges when raising awareness and promoting the Red Cross’ humanitarian mission.

Of course, we couldn’t let them go without a taste of our traditional poutine, St-Hubert chicken and, most importantly, a sugar shack!

Listen to our two brave friends talk about their experience in -30°C (French with subtitles):
