Grandma Jean returns to Fort McMurray
“I’m so glad to be back in town,” says the feisty 86-year-old who locals affectionately call Grandma Jean. “I’ve been here over 40 years fighting for Fort Mac, and I’m gonna keep on fighting ... because I love it here,” says Jean Jensen from her wheelchair.

Her neighbors Rita Gagnon and Jude Forget brought Grandma Jean to check in at Red Cross. “We were so worried about her throughout the evacuation,” says Rita, “I was so glad to see her.”

Red Cross workers like Kimberly Robock are welcoming back residents at two locations downtown.

During regular business hours, Mon – Fri from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., returnees are asked to visit Future Forward Place at 9717 Franklin Ave. On weekday evenings until 8:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:30 to 5:00 pm, returning residents can visit the Red Cross Office at 9816 Hardin Street.

Red Cross assistance has no anticipated end date, and we look forward to helping the community for many months to come
