With support from the Canadian government, the Canadian Red Cross team has reached more than 10 isolated communities affected by Hurricane Matthew including Mouline, Moline, Fond d’Icaque, Petit-Ange, Grand-Bassin, Petite-Rivière, Jean-Bellune, Gabriel, Carcasse as well as Anse d’Hainault.
As they travel through these remote regions, the Red Cross team has seen the resilience of residents in communities hard hit by the hurricane.
Aid worker France Hurtubise captured this photo of a young boy in Gabriel. His infectious smile motivated the team to continue working hard to provide health care to people who haven’t received health services since the hurricane hit.
Every day, the mobile field clinic is on the move, travelling to remote villages where roads and infrastructure have been damaged by heavy winds and rain brought on by Hurricane Matthew, all in an effort to reach vulnerable people in desperate need of medical attention.
