The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.
PHILIPPINES: Just a few weeks ago, the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the Philippines marked a major milestone in Haiyan response efforts by building over 10,000 new houses. The number of houses constructed so far is more than 25 per cent of the overall shelter target of 40,000.
KENYA: Consecutive pregnancies take a toll on a woman’s health, while men have trouble feeding their expanding families. Health awareness spread by the Red Cross helps families prepare for health risks in the villages of north Kenya. The Red Cross has trained 100 local volunteers as health and nutrition advisors, who visit villages and give advice to women and men on how to prepare for health risks. The project is funded by the European Union.
