Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross, recently paid us a visit at Canadian Red Cross offices in Ontario and British Columbia, where she reaffirmed the strong partnership formed with us in the wake of the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan which struck her country two years ago.

In her meeting with Conrad Sauvé, Canadian Red Cross President and CEO, Dr. Pang told him that due to the Canadian Red Cross’ support and Canadians’ donations, the Philippine Red Cross has been able to address the needs of the many people affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

“Our strong and enduring links will further strengthen our ability to respond to future disasters, ”she added.

The Canadian Red Cross handed over the emergency field hospital it had established in the Filipino city of Ormocpost- Haiyan to the Philippine Red Cross, and has continued its support through providing training and equipment to ensure “field readiness” of the unit and staff.

The good progress was amply demonstrated when in April this year, after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal, five Philippine Red Cross medical delegates were deployed to work with local health workers, where they performed life-saving surgeries and emergency procedures, along with providing maternal and child healthcare.
