I’ve wanted to babysit since kindergarten!

Many parents feel uncomfortable leaving their child in the care of a young babysitter. If you are a parent who checks in several times a night to make sure everything is okay at home, you will feel more at ease during your evenings out by hiring a trained babysitter.

The Red Cross Babysitting Course is for youth 11–15 years old who want to learn to provide care to younger children. The course teaches basic first aid, how to care for babies and toddlers, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. After the training day, youth will leave with a manual and the tools to promote themselves as babysitters.

Mila wanted to babysit since she was in kindergarten. When she was 11, she registered in the babysitting courses offered by her school in Beaconsfield. Now, she often babysits her 9-year-old brother and neighbourhood children. Although she has never had to handle an emergency, she feels better prepared after the training and would even like to improve her first aid knowledge.
