April 6-12 is National Volunteer Week. Meet some of the inspiring Red Cross volunteers who help us fulfill our mission in communities across Canada.
Did you know that in 140 characters or less or by posting on Facebook you can help the Canadian Red Cross carry out our mission during a disaster?
The Canadian Red Cross is looking to add more members to the Canadian Red Cross Social Team.
If you are active on Twitter or Facebook and want to become involved,
sign up today to join the Canadian Red Cross Social Team. When disasters strike you'll be among the first to know how the Canadian Red Cross is responding as part of the team that shares key information and provides support to those in need.
Meet two members of the Red Cross Social Team:

As a member of the Red Cross Social Team, I get to be a part of the amazing work the Red Cross does during disasters by posting links on my timeline or sharing Red Cross information with my Twitter followers.
During the Alberta floods I had many Twitter conversations about the Red Cross response and helped spread essential information to as many people as possible. In times of a disaster, people want answers. By reaching out directly to those in need I believe I’m making a difference to them.
I saw a lot of grief during the Alberta floods and many people lost a great deal. I wasn’t expecting that level of emotion but I learned that I could handle it. Not only could I handle it, I could actually help.

I lived in Pakistan when the earthquake struck in 2005. I remember seeing Red Cross workers walking through the streets, climbing over rubble, helping those in need. That’s how I learned about the Red Cross ... seeing that made me want to get involved.
Being a part of the Social Team is a totally unique experience. I’m able to connect with people who are often really far away and I can help them in many of the same ways Red Cross volunteers do all over the world. I’m able to make a direct impact.
I think it’s amazing that I can reach out through social media and empathize with individuals and families as they go through a tough time. Those connections help give people hope.
Being part of the Social Team has taught me how we can connect with people despite distances and despite differences to have an impact on their lives.
