Labron Hinds, 9, came to the shelter with his grandmother Barbara Redman.
Labron lost his mom a few years ago and lives with his grandmother in a high-rise building that lost power and heat. She called 911 for help to get down the apartment stairs after two cold days. Police brought them to the Agincourt Community Center where the Red Cross has been operating a warming center.
She had no gifts for him for Christmas so the Red Cross was working with a local church to get some treats.
Red Cross volunteers continue to work around the clock to help those affected by the ice storm. The Red Cross has working with the City of Toronto to support 10 warming centers across the city. Approximately 800 people stayed in those shelters last night.
