Staff and volunteers of the Spanish Red Cross have been working to help residents who were affected by the forest fires that occured last week on Spain’s Canary Island of La Gomera. Almost a quarter of the population of the island has had to flee their homes, meaning about 5,000 people are affected. Since the fires spread across the island the Spanish Red Cross has mobilized over 60 volunteers and staff, carrying out 27 health support interventions.
