Helmets and pads can only go so far to protect kids who play sports. That’s why respect was the theme of Hockey Canada’s AGM held in Halifax this past week and the focus of a talk by former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy who has spoken extensively about his own experience as a young player. The meeting was also an opportunity for staff of the Canadian Red Cross to meet with Sheldon and others who are involved in promoting safe environments for children. The Red Cross delivers bullying and abuse prevention programs in schools and is a partner of Respect Group Inc., founded by Sheldon Kennedy and Wayne McNeil, through which coaches and parents receive Respect in Sport training.
