Did you know that 780 million people today don’t have access to a safe and reliable water supply? Consider the lost potential in this: 71% of households in Sub-Saharan Africa rely on women and girls to collect water, and these women and girls walk on average 6 km every day to get it. That adds up to 16 million hours every year that they could be going to school, learning new skills, or working to provide for themselves and their families.
Check out this series of photos showing the work of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies to improve access to water.
