Last week, the Canadian Red Cross opened a satellite office in Moose Cree First Nation, located near Moosonee on the coast of James Bay. This is the first Red Cross office in a First Nation community in Ontario and the second in Canada. Working closely with the Red Cross branch office in Timmins, the Moose Cree First Nation satellite office will support the development and delivery of existing Red Cross programs and services in the Moose Cree community. The first programs to operate from this satellite office will be disaster management and violence and abuse prevention. This is an exciting partnership that will help the citizens of Moose Cree live healthier and safer lives and develop their capacity to prevent injuries, abuse and violence and prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies.
