This is one of the coolest emergency preparedness education initiatives I’ve seen in a long time.
Introducing to you “The Magnitude” - take a bunch of preparedness tips, add some actors and a clever script and you have the makings of a five-part American Red Cross, Los Angeles chapter romantic comedy web series. Each 5-minute episode follows a group of young LA residents as they prepare for the next big earthquake with activities from a scavenger hunt for emergency supplies to earthquake drills before watching the Sunday football game.
It’s like an episode of Friends meets an emergency preparedness workshop.
Los Angeles is known as a hot spot for potential earthquakes, however, earthquakes can also happen in Canada. British Columbia is one area where earthquakes are possible. Even last summer in Ontario, an earthquake had residents feeling the ground shaking in many communities including Toronto and Ottawa. Earthquakes can happen anytime, so it’s good to be prepared.
“The Magnitude” was written and directed by Red Cross volunteer Jordon Melograna. Two dozen film and television professionals donated their time and energy to film the series.
You can catch the first episode this Sunday at http://preparela.org/themagnitude. I will for sure be tuning in!
