Red Cross supporters come from all backgrounds and ages. One of our most devoted and youngest supporters is no doubt a 9-year-old named Sophie from Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
Last week, Sophie battled a bit of shyness and nerves to stand in front of a packed audience of parents, teachers and fellow students at her school, and speak about her favourite organization: The Canadian Red Cross. The Grade 4 student was taking part in a speech competition, and had to impress three judges.
This is part of what she said, while proudly sporting a Red Cross pin:
“When I was in Grade 3, I learned that kids can make a difference. Our Grade 3 class decided to have an art auction to raise money for Haiti. We painted pictures and sold them. Everyone helped. We raised over $1,000. We donated it to the Red Cross and the government matched it. I am glad that we could help.”
Sophie received a Certificate of Recognition for her speech, and is already looking forward to next year’s competition. Congrats!
