The Red Cross Round-up

*written by Katie Robinson, communications coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross *

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our Sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

PAKISTAN: The Red Cross Beneficiary Communications Radio programme has been launched in Pakistan.  Facilitated by volunteers with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, this programme will allow for two-way communication with those affected by the monsoon floods. Responses received by listeners will help Red Cross streamline its programming for flood survivors.

HAITI: Rose-Marie Claudette Major lost her home in the January 12 earthquake.  She was recently given a sturdy Red Cross shelter that protects her and her family from the wind and the rain.

AMERICAS: On November 25, the Canadian Red Cross introduced the First Responder Initiative.  This 3-year program ensures the deployment of personnel and medical assistance is done rapidly and efficiently, which will strengthen our capacity and ability to prepare and respond.
