A shout-out to some amazing volunteers

We’d like to congratulate these outstanding volunteers, Judith Irving and Amanda Titus in Saint John, New Brunswick for their recent awards recognizing the humanitarian work they do.

Judith Irving received the Humanitarian Award for her work with ONEXONE in Haiti and Rwanda as well as her involvement with local charities. Bill Clinton, Roméo Dallaire and Frank McKenna were among those who sent congratulatory messages and paid tribute to Judith Irving, who has made three trips to Haiti to deliver relief supplies since the January earthquake devastated that country.

Amanda Titus received the Young Humanitarian Award. Amanda could not travel from Sydney, Australia to accept her award in person, so she gave her speech via YouTube.

Humanitarian Awards were also handed out earlier this month to Dr. Ivar Mendez, a neurosurgeon, artist and humanitarian living in Nova Scotia who is changing the lives of children in the remote Bolivian Andes and other parts of the world through technology, dental care and a breakfast program. Carolyn Bateman, the recipient of the award in Prince Edward Island, was honoured for her extensive work to raise awareness and help families impacted with autism in her province.

Throughout the month of November, the Canadian Red Cross is celebrating and recognizing several remarkable people in Atlantic Canada by presenting them with Humanitarian and Young Humanitarian awards.

Stay tuned – we’ll be announcing more awards this week!
