Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis : overview of the past year of the international armed conflict
Video Summary:
A year after the escalation of international armed conflict, the humanitarian needs are still immense in Ukraine and surrounding countries. A third of the Ukrainian population has been displaced, and many essential infrastructures such as hospitals, schools and homes have been damaged due to the conflict.
Violaine Des Rosiers, Operations Manager for the IFRC in Ukraine for the past 8 months, explains how the Red Cross has helped people impacted thanks to donations from people living in Canada, support from the Government of Canada and the critical impact of Red Cross Red Crescent teams. This includes the distribution of financial assistance to more than half a million people, the distribution of over 38,900 emergency relief items such as blankets and cooking supplies, mental health and psychosocial support, support to mobile health units, repairs to health facilities, the implementation of a hot line, rehabilitation of community centres, as well as the deployment of more than 45 humanitarian experts from Canada to support the International Red Cross response in Ukraine and surrounding countries.
