The Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi was hit by a series of earthquakes - the strongest being of 7.4 magnitude and a powerful tsunami on Friday 28 September. The Indonesian Red Cross was the first to reach the village of Petobo on the border of Palu and Sigi. The village that was home to almost 500 people had been destroyed by the tsunami. Indonesian Red Cross teams have recovered the bodies of 14 villagers and will continue their search and rescue activities today.
