World Refugee Day: Red Cross reunites family scattered by bombing attack

Losing contact with family members can cause enormous anxiety, especially in the midst of disaster or conflict. Sometimes separation will last for days or months and sometimes it will last for years, as it did for Sadia and her siblings.

My daughter is cautious, my son is fearless but water safety skills prepared them both

My kids couldn’t be more different, and it is never more apparent than when they are around water.
My daughter is the cautious one. When learning to swim, the edge of the pool was always within arms’ reach. My son, on the other hand, has no fear. His audacious nature has been the cause of many anxious moments for me.

Recognizing the generosity of Canadian Red Cross volunteers

Canadian Red Cross appreciates the ongoing dedication of volunteers across the country dedicated to helping in times of disaster, emergency, community health and training through various programs.

University students confront realities of war

Defining a child soldier, determining appropriate treatment for prisoners of war, and negotiating peaceful resolutions were among the tasks completed recently by university students participating in a Red Cross club workshop at the University of Calgary.

The interactive Paxium workshop focused on International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and increased awareness of the difficult decisions political, military, and civilian personnel have to make during conflicts.

One of HELP's Most Valuable Players

Every year more than 20,000 Albertans are loaned walkers, canes, crutches and other health equipment, for free, thanks to Canadian Red Cross volunteers like Mike Pudelko.

Pudelko has been volunteering as a technician with the Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) for about three years now, and enjoys the work so much that he even comes in on his days off.

We share some highlights from Red Cross Day of Pink events and activities held throughout the province, in schools and workplaces.
