Over the past year, the Red Cross has helped the community recover by providing emergency assistance and support through a number of projects. Here are two stories from people who lived through the disaster and went on to help their community recover with the help of Red Cross:

Should we follow animals’ leads when it comes to natural disasters? For centuries, people have argued that animals can predict natural disasters. Some experts believe animals may have a sixth sense allowing them to sense impending natural disasters long before we humans can.

In times of disaster, such as the recent flooding in Northern Ontario, Red Cross volunteers are on the ground helping those in need. When flooding forced the evacuation of approximately 1,500 people from Kashechewan on May 10, more than 200 Canadian Red Cross volunteers deployed to aid evacuees.

To be a Red Crosser sometimes means you have to be ingenious about getting the job done, especially in a disaster response. And job location flexibility is always an asset when you work with a global humanitarian response agency.
