Since its inception by the American Red Cross in 2006, the Tiffany Circle has rapidly grown to over 1,000 members in the U.S., Canada, Britain, France and Australia.
Each member is given the same Tiffany & Co. bracelet with an iconic Red Cross charm, with renewing members receiving a new charm reflecting their contributions to the Red Cross’ efforts each year. The group, consisting of women philanthropists, community leaders and professionals, was named after the majestic stained-glass windows at the American Red Cross’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. commissioned from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios in 1917.
As an act of “reconciliation and hope” the windows were funded by a donation by two women’s groups of $5,000 each. In recognition of this history, each Tiffany Circle member makes a minimum annual gift of $10,000, which goes to support a Red Cross program of the member’s choice.
The Canadian Red Cross Tiffany Circle was established in 2011 and has grown to 70 members across the country who have so far committed over $5.3 million to help boost Red Cross programs at home and abroad.
Members have contributed to disaster preparedness efforts and relief missions for natural disasters, violence and abuse prevention programs for children and youth, health equipment loans, nutrition programs, transportation for those in need and many others. Some specific programs include helping the Canadian Red Cross achieve fundraising goals for the ‘Imagine No Bullying’ campaign and projects within Canada’s First Nation communities.
