First-time Canadian Red Cross delegate Dr. Michael Boroditsky of Winnipeg shares his experiences working in a rural emergency field hospital in Dhunche, Nepal.

Adeola Adebayo, a nurse in Halifax, recently returned from Germany where he assisted in the refugee response efforts. For a month, he worked in Feldkirchen and Erding refugee camps run by the German Red Cross.

The Canadian Red Cross is working with the German Red Cross to help welcome thousands of refugees who are fleeing violence in their country. In Feldkirchen, a community located near Munich, a camp has been established with the capacity for up to 5,000 people. From this camp, refugees are able to take their first steps in seeking asylum. 

The Red Cross responded quickly in the immediate aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, reaching 1.3 million people with emergency relief. Two years after the typhoon, the Red Cross continues to help survivors recover and rebuild.

Two weeks ago, our world looked a bit different. We were providing psycho-social support at a transit camp for refugees near Munich in Germany as part of a Canadian Red Cross team assisting the German Red Cross. There we witnessed the best of humanity, the resilience and the courage of refugees, as well as the devastating effects of conflict in home countries, and the consequences of trauma during migration.

Six months on from the Nepal earthquakes, we take a look at recovery still taking place in devastated regions. These are photos from Nepal, where the Canadian Red Cross set up a field hospital to provide emergency medical care following the earthquake six months ago.
