A behind-the-scenes look at Canadian Ebola fighters

We’ve introduced you to many Red Cross Ebola fighters over the past year. Whether they’re medical professionals, technicians or administrators, these Red Cross aid workers have all played a part in helping people in West Africa recover from the outbreak and stop the spread of the virus.

While the number of Ebola cases has dropped in recent weeks, the Red Cross continues to support people affected by Ebola. We provide psychosocial support to patients and family members, as well as education and awareness activities. The fight isn’t over until there are zero cases of Ebola.

Nurse Jodi Dockman and psychosocial support delegate Valerie Heerema recently left Canada to help in the fight against Ebola in West Africa. They recorded this short video at the airport in Ottawa as they were about to embark on their mission.

Jodi has also been documenting some of the day-to-day activities at the Ebola treatment centre in Sierra Leone, such as the group of workers singing at the end of the video. It’s what the team calls a “happy shower,” as staff gather to celebrate an Ebola survivor going home after recovering from the virus.

Join us in thanking all Red Cross workers who have contributed to stopping the Ebola outbreak.
