The
Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.
CHINA: The Red Cross Society of China provided
help and emotional support for survivors after a knife
attack that left at least 29 people dead and more than 140 wounded at a busy railway station in Kunming, capital of the southwestern province of Yunnan. The attack took place late on Saturday, March 1, when a group carrying long knives started slashing indiscriminately at waiting passengers and those lining up at ticket windows, sending terrified bystanders fleeing into nearby shops and restaurants to escape the carnage.
IRAN: The record-breaking early-February snowstorm dumped
severe snow in 26 provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, mainly in the Northern Province of Mazandaran and left local people with immense needs. During the last two weeks, relief workers from the provincial branch of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mazandaran provided relief and rescue services to 11,900 people and settled 200 trapped persons in safer places.
