Canadian Red Cross Personalized Recovery and Interim Housing Support available for households impacted by Atlantic wildfires
Halifax, Nova Scotia | July 04, 2023
Over the past five weeks, the Canadian Red Cross has provided emergency financial assistance to more than 7,800 households that were impacted by devastating wildfires in the Maritimes. As the needs of those impacted shift to longer-term recovery, the Canadian Red Cross will now provide additional support for those most impacted by the wildfires through the Personalized Recovery and Interim Housing Support program.
Through this program, the Red Cross will work with individuals and families to help them navigate their recovery journey. Support may include helping those impacted with planning their return home, understanding insurance and community resources, providing information and referrals, as well as providing financial assistance to access mental health services and interim housing support for those who have experienced major damage to, or the destruction of, their primary home.
A Red Cross team has already begun booking appointments with eligible households for personalized follow-up. Those interested in learning more about the Personalized Recovery and Interim Housing Support program can visit www.redcross.ca/atlanticwildfires or call 1-800-863-6582 (Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ADT) to book an appointment.
The Canadian Red Cross continues to collaborate with impacted residents, governments and other organizations to identify needs and determine how to help people most impacted by the disaster.
